A proven, modular industrial platform combining proprietary cane separation with counter-current extraction to unlock three high-value streams of innovative functional ingredients from a single feedstock.
The Tilby System is a proprietary cane-separation technology that splits the stalk into three distinct components — Dermax, Comrind and Comfith — each preserved in its native form for downstream processing.
The complete process includes billet receiving, metering, detrashing and separation. It uses substantially less energy and requires lower maintenance than conventional mills.
Its modular design makes it suited to greenfield builds and to revitalising existing sugarcane infrastructure. Further, the underlying technology is adaptable to other high-biomass crops such as sunflower, sweet sorghum, hemp and kenaf — extending the platform's reach far beyond traditional sugarcane regions.
The Lang System is a Counter-Current Extraction (CCE) technology that recovers high-value compounds from the three Tilby fractions: tricin-extract from Dermax, juice concentrate and nutritional fibre from Comfith.
Applied to sugarcane through the Tilby Lang System, CCE preserves the natural matrix of polyphenols and antioxidants — delivering standardised polyphenol ingredients at industrial scale.
The Tilby Lang System was almost entirely invented and developed in Australia, with its genesis at the CSIRO. It represents decades of Australian process-engineering research brought together into a single integrated industrial platform.
Combined, the two systems form an integrated technology platform that takes whole sugarcane through three stages of separation and extraction, delivering market-ready streams of innovative functional ingredients.
